Leading underwriter, Cornerstone Insurance has sponsored the sixth edition of the Insurance Open Golf Tournament held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The three-day tournament which drew over 250 golfers, with 25 winners emerging victorious in nine categories, was held from September 20 to 22, at the Ibadan Golf Club.
In his opening remarks, the Captain of the Club, Seyi Alaba, lauded Cornerstone and other sponsors for their commitment in reviving the tournament despite a few years’ absence. He maintained that the competition had been on hold for six years due to several reasons, including COVID-19 and the country’s economic situation.
He said, “I am extremely happy today that we were able to bring back the Insurance Open through one of our past captains and a Trustee of IGC, Babajide Olatunde-Agbeja. His commitment to this competition cannot be overstated. You have indeed demonstrated once again your love for the club and your passion for the game of golf.
“To the insurance companies that sponsored this great tournament, we sincerely acknowledge your support over the years. It’s been outstanding. Your contributions to the game of golf, which cut across ages and genders, are positively impacting our society.
“We strongly believe that this event will help strengthen both the body and mind, so that apart from offering excellent insurance services to the citizens, you are also supporting sports activities. What better way to give back to society despite the economic situation? We thank you for doing this again at the IGC,” Alaba said.
